Shipping with shipshark
How do I ship a free product to a country outside the EU?
When shipping to a country outside the EU (for example NO, USA, UK), the shipment must never be declared at a value of 0.00.
This often happens when a customer wants to send a product as a gift to an influencer, PR recipient, or similar. Even if the item is free for the recipient, the customs declaration still needs a real declared value.
If the value is set to 0, the carrier or customs authorities can reject the shipment and the label may not be created.
What to keep in mind
- A non-EU shipment must never be sent with a value of 0.
- You must enter a realistic commercial value for the item.
- Customs lines need the correct description, quantity, positive unit price, VAT percentage, tariff number, and country of origin.
- A gift or influencer shipment is still a real shipment in customs systems; it is not a zero-value shipment.
What to do
- Enter a realistic value for the item, for example the actual product value or a value agreed with us.
- Fill in the customs details correctly: tariff number, country of origin, description, and quantity.
- Set a positive unit price in the customs line.
- If the package is a gift or UB shipment, it still needs to be declared correctly for customs.
Example
A free product sent to the UK should still have a valid customs value, for example EUR 25 or the actual product value, rather than 0.00.
